Wayne Deschouwer

It is with profound sadness that the we announce the passing of our organization’s fearless leader, Wayne Deschouwer on October 1, 2018.

Wayne joined the organization as a coach in 1995.  In 2004, Wayne became our organization’s president and was with us until his passing.  Wayne led with integrity, pride and passion.  He always made time for everyone who approached him with an idea, a concern or needing his invaluable advise and expertise.  Wayne was highly respected by many and as a very humble man did not truly understand how many he has impacted with his generosity and spirit.  Wayne was also a highly regarded fastpitch umpire who mentored and coached umpires throughout the province.  Wayne served as Softball Manitoba’s provincial Umpire in Chief from 2010 – 2015.  In 2012, Wayne received Softball Manitoba’s Jim Adams Award for Outstanding Executive Member and Administrator.  In 2018 his beloved Mariapolis Blues and Gladstone Whips men’s fastball teams were inducted into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame.

Words cannot capture how deeply we will mourn his passing.  There have been many public tributes to Wayne this week, including our Premier Brian Pallister during a session in the legislature.  We encourage you to view this.

Our most sincere sympathies are extended to Wayne’s wife Clemence and his children; Lisa, Marc and Eric.
